The Economy Series change machines, introduced in 1999 (shown above), were the precursor to today’s Modular Series designs. But the technology is completely different. The conversion kits will update the internals without affecting the cabinet design. No need to remove the entire machine!
The EC-To-MC Conversion Kit allows you to update the internal components at a fraction of the cost of a new machine. No need to disconnect the electrical wiring or pull the machine out of the wall (or off the wall). That translates to significant savings and minimal disruptions to your operation.
The EC Series technology had coin hoppers manufactured with a 12-pin male connector that slid into a matching bracket. This connection supplied power to the hopper and interfaced with the logic board located inside a steel enclosure mounted to the wall. Many of the EC Series machines were supplied with pulse bill acceptors – like the old Coinco BillPro and Mag50 models.
The EC-to-MC Series Conversion Kit includes:
- New MC Series Coin Hopper(s) (up to 3,200 Quarters/$800 capacity each)

- New MC Series Power Supply (with 3-prong/grounded electrical plug)
- New Out of Service Lamp with cable
- Universal Bill Acceptor Communication Cable (Pulse & MDB connectors)

If your old pulse BillPro or Mag50 bill acceptor is still operational – you can keep it. We have a Universal cable for both MDB and Pulse communication included in the kit. All EC-to-MC Series Conversion Kits are sold without a bill acceptor. Alternatively, if you would like a new MDB bill acceptor, you will need to order that in addition to the kit. Your choices are Pyramid APEX-7000 Series and CPi T7-Talos models, with 500 bill stackers for $1 through $20 bill acceptance.
Pulse Communication (EC) vs. MDB Communication (MC)
Pulse protocol is one-way. A Pulse bill acceptor will send a signal to the control board but does not know if the control board received the signal or if it did anything with it. In MDB protocol, you have two-way communication. An MDB bill acceptor will send a signal and wait for a response from the control board that the operation is complete and everything is ready for the next transaction.
